ANGELA KNIGHT
Angela Knight is the Chair of the Office of Tax Simplification, to which she was appointed in December 2015 and the Chair of Tilman Brewin Dolphin, the Dublin based wealth manager.
She is also the senior independent director on the Board of TPICAP Plc and a non member of the boards of the house builder Taylor Wimpey Plc and the private bank Arbuthnot Latham. She is also an advisor to the performance and remuneration centre PARC, the economic consultancy Oxera, Goodacre UK the financial services training company and a member of the governing body of the Astana Financial Services Authority.
Until the end of 2014, she was chief executive of the energy industry trade body Energy UK and prior to that the Chief Executive of the British Bankers’ Association during the banking crisis. Angela joined the BBA from the Association of Private Client Investment Managers and Stockbrokers (now the Wealth Management Association), where she had been the CEO since the autumn of 1997. During this period, Angela also served as a non-executive director on a number of plc boards.
Before running trade associations, Angela was MP for Erewash from 1992 - 1997, and during that time a Treasury Minister, working for the Rt Hon Kenneth Clarke MP, Chancellor of the Exchequer.
Angela has a degree in Chemistry from Bristol University and then worked in the engineering industry for 15 years, including setting up and running a heavy engineering company in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, before becoming involved in politics via Sheffield City Council.
She was honoured with a CBE for services to the financial services industry in 2007.
